My AP Calculus Success Story
My name is Andrew Song. I am 16 years old and a junior at St. Charles East high school. This is my AP Calculus success story with Learning Ascent. My father always told me that “failing to prepare is preparing to fail”.
The summer going into my junior year of high school, I had heard from many of my upperclassmen friends that it would be the hardest year yet. I took that with a grain of salt because my freshman and sophomore years were easy to me. I was taking AP and honors classes, and I was doing really well in them. It pains me to say that my friends were indeed correct. For the first time in my high school career, I found myself struggling to do well in my classes. The first semester of my junior year was very stressful and my grades were dropping. I was worried about my AP Calculus success.
Getting Help
My parents talked to me about it and they suggested that I get a tutor. I was resistant and a bit stubborn about starting tutoring. I figured that my struggles would go away in a few weeks. However, a month passed after that conversation and there still wasn’t any improvement in my grades. So the following week, I found myself walking into Learning Ascent Tutoring. The class that I had really found to be difficult was my AP Calculus 2 class. My parents were pleasantly surprised that they were able to find a tutor for that high level of a class in St. Charles. Coming to Learning Ascent turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. The help and tutoring that they offered me had immediate effects on both my grades and my study habits. They also helped prepare me for the AP Calculus test!
The Results
I ended up acing the next 4 tests and I got an A on the final for that semester. As good as the grades sound, the biggest benefit was how my tutor helped me change my study habits to accommodate to the more difficult types of classes I was taking. The difference was huge. All of my grades have dramatically risen since first semester. When I look back at what Learning Ascent has done for me, I realize that they did a lot more than just tutor me in AP Calculus. They helped to improve my mind in whole. They taught me WHY I should be doing certain things rather than just HOW to do it. Walking through the basics of how to do something is not hard, but understanding the meaning of why you do something is just as important as well. Here are some of their study tips!
Thanks Learning Ascent!
I encourage everybody to take a look at Learning Ascent whether it be for school, standardized testing, summer classes, or more, they tutor in almost anything. Even if you are doing well at the moment, it never hurts to plan ahead.
